May the Course Be With You: A Woman’s Guide to Golfing

In 2015, a 128 year old male only system ended when a British golf club voted to let female members in. There are more than 80 million golfers globally according to an HSBC report and around 20 percent of them are female golfers. Hence, it is pretty evident that today, more and more females are now joining the world of golf than ever before. Here are a few tips to help you learn faster if you are a female and have just joined in the golf industry.

1 A precise grip.

A satisfactory golf swing is always based around a proper grip. If you do not start off with a proper grip, you might not swing correctly. It also might get worse if you don’t learn to have a proper grip. Let’s guide you on how you can achieve a good grip. Start off with your arms and hands dangling naturally and loosely. Do not change the position of your hand and place the golf club ensuring that the clubface is diagonal towards your target. You must be able to see the knuckles of your index and your left middle finger. There must be two Vs between your thumb and your index finger on both the hands. You can buy golf gloves online at the cheapest rates to ensure a greater grip on your golf club!

2 Bend the correct way.

Usually, beginner women tend to bend at their knees rather than their hips when playing golf. When you bend at knees, it ruins the posture and lessens the power of your swing. When you bend at your hips, it creates an athletic pose where you have more room to swing and build a circular motion around your body.

3 Higher resistance.

Might sound a little daunting, but it’s true! When you hit a power swing, your upper and lower body builds up tension and then gradually unrolls the force. When there is a greater degree of angle between your hips and shoulders, your body tends to create stored-up power. It’s similar to playing baseball. As the ball comes near, the hips begin to unroll right before the shoulders and the bat swings with utmost power. Almost like a slingshot!

4 Warm up!

Ever felt tired and sore after the end of the first golf game round? Well, now you know how much energy this game actually requires! A little warm up before you start is key. You can follow a few exercises before proceeding. Stretch your muscles by doing exercises like leg extensions and trunk rotation. Secondly, engage in exercises that involve your lower body and the shoulders. This combo exercise will help you play longer and minimize the potential for injuries.
